In My Garden: Celery!

Above: celery planted in one of my raised beds.

In my garden the most important vegetables I grow are the ones that make up a beautiful salad, since we eat huge salads with our dinner every night. I plan my garden so that I never run out of lettuce, arugula or spinach, cucumbers and carrots, scallions and radishes, along with bell peppers, tomatoes and different herbs.

This year I decided to try planting celery and boy was I glad I did.  We never realized how rubbery and flavorless the celery in the grocery store was until we tried it from our garden. Talk about a strong celery flavor! And it's extremely crunchy.

The only drawback to having a garden and greenhouse is if you forget to plant something before you run out of that item, you usually don't eat it until it comes up again. It's almost impossible to enjoy vegetables from the grocery store, even fresh organic ones, once you start eating from your garden. And even the simplest things, like celery, can forever change the way you look at it!
