A Unique Egret Door for a Unique Home
A client of mine, who I had previously designed and carved some beautiful dolphin doors for many years earlier for one of her previous homes, purchased a very unique home in Point Loma. It is literally on the water. As you look out her windows you feel as though you are on a boat in the bay. The water is lapping against the exterior walls of the home while you watch the boats sail by.
It's a wonderful spot, and she wanted a special door for this new home, requesting egrets as the focal point of the door. Almost immediately I had an idea of what I would like to do. I envisioned egrets standing in water, with that water rippling around their legs. The egrets are carved in the round in heavy relief. You see the front of the birds on the outside and the back of the birds from the inside of the home. The birds and doors are made of Burmese Teak. The glass is several types of clear glass, which I textured in my kiln, to give it a shimmering effect and the legs of the egrets are copper. This was a very fun entryway to make!
