In My Garden

One of the biggest pleasures in having a garden in eating what you have grown. Summer is here with all the wonderful fruits and vegetables in bloom. It's almost impossible for us to buy fruit and vegetables in stores after eating from an organic and veganic garden. I use only organic products and vegan fertilizers in my soil.

I am having big fruit salads for lunch consisting of blackberries, blueberries, loquats, and oranges. I am also picking the last of our cherries right now, the ones the birds left on the trees for us! My apple trees are bursting with apples, my avocado trees are full of fruit, and my orange trees just never seem to run out of oranges. I have been picking them for months. I planted a papaya tree two years ago and finally have harvested my first papaya. It was so big that it took me through two lunches.

Our vegetable garden is producing cucumbers and zucchini like nobody's business. We have big cucumber salads every night and have been cooking zucchini in every way possible. Home grown zucchini is very sweet and flavorful. Who knew? Store bought zucchini has zero flavor so I have never liked it. But now I am eating it every night, cooked in a variety of ways from tacos to stir fries to pizza to spiralized raw as a pasta substitute.
