In the Neo-Classic Style

Lion Hall Table. Solid Wenge wood, with an uba tuba granite top and the lion heads I hand carved and gold leafed, also adding a band of gold leaf around the bottom rim.

Neo-Classic design is overlooked so often when in fact it can go with so many other styles including Comtemporary, Traditional, and Classic designs.  The design can go from simple lines to very detailed with beautiful carved elements, metal work, gold leaf, and a variety of fantastic figured and non-figured woods, often with ebony moulding details.

Several years ago a client of mine was building a new home in Rancho Santa Fe and commissioned me to build most of the furniture for the home in, you guessed it, Neo-Classic style. The pieces needed to be of a larger scale than normal because of the large rooms with very high ceilings. The client also wanted the pieces of furniture to be done in different woods for the various rooms to add interest and variety to the look. I was given a set of plans and asked to make more than 50 pieces of furniture for the home. I was to design one room at a time, showing the client my detailed drawings, wood samples, and finish samples. One the room was completed, the furniture would be put into storage and I was to start on the next room. It was a two year project.

I have done many projects over the last 40+ years in the Neo-Classic style. The lion table pictured above is by far one of my favorite projects. It is solid wenge wood, with an uba tuba granite top and the lion heads I hand carved and gold leafed, also adding a band of gold leaf around the bottom rim for what I feel is a stunning effect.

Below are a few more examples of some of my favorite pieces that I have designed and built.
