A Functional Garage with a pop of color!

I have designed and built a lot of high-quality and beautiful built-in cabinets in the last 45 years, but in the last couple of years I have done several garage storage cabinets that would rival most kitchens or master baths. There seems to be a growing trend for people wanting to extend their homes into their garages. They want good looking and practical storage space along with a pleasant hobby area. In other words, a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing room to hang out in, not just some stuffy cold garage where the holiday wrapping is stored. In a sense, people are adding hundreds of square feet to their living space by making the garage an enjoyable room to be in.

The last garage I did was particularly fun. The clients have an excellent sense of design, mixing classical and contemporary art, and they know the value of well-made work. They also wanted something fun and decided the cabinets should be painted red! This definitely brightened up their garage, adding a bit of whimsy to the classic look of the cabinets. I built the cabinets out of solid maple, painting the outside red, but leaving the interiors, as well as the counter tops, natural. The hinges and knobs which are from France, are solid brass with an antique finish. The small desk at the far end has a lift-up top so it can double as a drafting table or a table top. This is a garage that won't be ignored!
