Carved Door, Japan

Glass Transom for above the entryway, quail in a pine tree, carved wood and carved glass.

The entryway, hand-carved pine tree and quail in Imbuia wood

I received a call from a man in New York calling to make an appointment for his boss, Mr. H., who lived in Japan. The following month Mr. H. flew out to meet me and discuss commissioning an entryway for his home in Japan. He told me he had looked all over Japan to find someone to carve a special entryway for him, but was unable to until he came across my name, given to him by an associate of his in the US. We met, discussed his particulars, and I did a series of drawings, all by hand the only way I still present my ideas to clients. He said what I had given him was exactly what he wanted so I proceeded to make and carve the door. I was to finish it, pre-hang it, add the hardware and put it into a heavy-duty crate for shipment to Japan. After receiving the door and having it installed, he was so pleased that he asked me to make a glass transom with matching design to go above the door, which of course I did. I wish I had a picture of the finished entryway all put together, but unfortunately I only took pictures before I shipped the items and did not receive any usable pictures to post on my website. But I hope you can get an idea from the pictures here. It was such a pleasure working for Mr. H. because he was so appreciative of my work.
