Dog and Cat Chair
Some very good clients of mine commissioned me to build over 50 pieces of furniture for their new home. Most of the furniture was neo-classic in style, gorgeous and simple lines. They then asked me to design and build a furniture art piece. Their only requirements were they wanted something fun and that you could possibly sit on it, as it was for a nook in a long hallway.
I came up with the idea of a dog and cat chair as a way to incorporate sculptural elements into a piece of furniture, something I love to do. And I added animals, the dog and cat, to the piece for the playful element they requested. I enjoy using nature and animals in my designs, it really brings my pieces to life.
And what fun this piece turned out to be. The chair is birds-eye maple, the dog is made of wenge, and the cat is made of imbuia. I put a natural finish on the whole piece so that the different woods would stand out and show their true colors. Needless to say, the clients loved the idea, and the final piece even more!
